Had some fun with one of my sketches from my trip to Shanghai. Trying to figure out if I can get an animation out of this, but in the meantime Posters!

No Playing!!!
The plan is to use the sounds I was able to record on my terrible camera phone and dslr and see what I can do with them.  When I have free time I guess.

Can't stop. Won't stop. uh uh uh uh

A couple more gifs in the can!

But what am I?

Boing - Boing

I'm really having a great time with the random nature of the film.  No boarding and no real planning has made it such a refreshing change from the structure that was a large part of grad school.  Also with no real deadlines or anything, I can just sit back and have fun.  I'll try to be better about posting newer gifs, but I do want to keep some surprises for when I actually finish the film.
And now, back to the grind.

Art Student... Two more gifs in the can!

For some reason it's far easier to work on things, when thesis is not in the title...

Again another shot to match the words of the song.  I could add a video, but the song isn't ready for that yet... Enjoy a stationary man with paint goo...

Boom Chow....Boom Boom Chow

Recently I've been playing around with Photoshop, trying to wrap my head around some 2d animation. Lot of work, but pretty fun so far.  Above is a gif from a possible music short idea.

The Leafy Terror

It has been ages since I've updated this site, but now with all this unwanted free time, I can finally add some more recent work.

After finally reading and finishing Understanding Comics by Scott McCloud, a very inspiring read about the art, styles, and tropes behind modern comics, I felt compelled to try my own hand at the sequential media.   I was not prepared for how long it would take and so I definitely had to scale down in the end.  What you see above is my first attempt at an extremely short comic based on the old sketch below.

This rough idea was a quick drawing I threw together while travelling last summer.   Mathilde and I went on a  hike up to the border of France and Italy, which, I've been told, is considered beautiful and romantic by some.  I mean look at that:

There are trees and grass and stuff.

But sadly a big part of my memory, as with many other trips I've taken into the all consuming dark maw of Mother Nature's bosom, is dominated more by the fears and perils seen on the journey.

The mild and slightly humid heat of the early afternoon sun, causing torrents of salty fluids to escape my body, completely drenching my clothes.  The blood-chilling and spirit-breaking feeling as the strands of spider webs caress the exposed skin.  The incessant buzzing, cawing, mooing, barking, and chirping of the forest's unforgiving predators.  How can one not help but question the existence of God amid all these horrors? With all this exercise?

Well anyway, thankfully I made it back alive and I felt the need to share my harrowing tale.

The idea for later is to redraw the initial sketch so that it can be more of a complete piece.  Or have a job. Really, either works for me.

Until next time!
